How to put songs into the i870 to use it as an Mp3 Player

This is a tutorial in how to put mp3s into the i870 and use it as an mp3 player.

1.Plug the card reader into the usb cable that is provided.
2.Plug the usb into the computer and install all necessary drivers.
3. Plug the small Transflash card into the big Transflash card. (the big one is an adapter.
4. Then from your computer go to My Computer and open up the E drive which should say removable drive.
5.When that is open you should see Audio, Video and Image
6.Drag the mp3 song that you want into the audio file
7. Then remove the small transflash card and adapter from the reader
8. Remove the small transflash card from the adapter and put it into the phone
9.Go to menu and then audio player and select the song that you want to play

You can listen to it with the flip closed, pause and search through with the outer buttons.

if this wasn't clear enough then let me know and I will claify any questions that you may have

AND REMEMBER TO HIT ME UP WITH SOME REP POINTS

NOTE: not tested on 870, this works on the e398, but its worth a try

In phone menu, go to the mp3 you would like to have as ringtone, copy it from your transflash card to phone, then you can set it as a ringtone.

click on the file, and hold the button down, the move the mouse(drag) it over the folder and let go, that will then place it inside that folder

MP3 as ringtone

I did it with an i860 so it should work with i870 as well. I took a .MP3 then with Cool Edit Pro 2.1 I cut it down to 2 minutes and converted it to 32 Kbps, 8000 Hz Sample Rate (4000 hz Max Bandwidth), Mono PCM and saved it. It was 470kb and uploaded it with WebJAL. I assigned it as an Alert and it worked. I'm assuming that if it worked as an alert it would as a ringtone as well. Of course a little editing is required.

If you're not satisfied with the sound quality you can make it 48 kbps, 8000 Hz as well. But if it's an i860 make sure to keep the filesize under 500 kb (2 minutes of audio is good)

Good luck

ok,i seriously cannot get this to work. mp3 files are 192kbs or lower, no more than 20 characters and put in the audio folder on my 512 card. the Audio player does not read the music, my i can play it from the media center.

other thing is does anyone have a batch mp3 converting program, most of mine ar 600+kps, and the one i used only let me do 15 songs

Any MP3 works as long as it's under 192kbs and the filename has to be under 32 chars.
I use LimeWire PRO to download my MP3's. Just a thought.

If you guys have not found out how to do this, follow these steps.

- Make sure the file name is less than 32 characters
- Make sure file name has no spaces (might work w/ spaces, but I prefer not to)
- Make sure the audio files are of mp3

If those steps don't work when you put them in the audio folder of the SD stick and open them in audio player but nothing shows up, then something is wrong with the bitrate and, Hz.

*** Be sure to follow this next step carefully because this is what's wrong most likely if the two steps above this doesn't work or anything you followed in the thread ***

Right click audio file > click "properties" > Go to "summary" > then go to "advanced".

Check the bitrate and make sure it's 128kbps and the audio sample rate is 44k hz. If it's anything else, then we need to change that. Use a program like "ImTOO Audio Encoder" to change the bitrate to 128kbps and the audio sample rate to 44k hz (44,. Make sure the file name is less than 32 characters and I'm pretty sure you can then put the files into the audio file of the SD memory stick and it'll work in your player.

I hope I made it understandable and hope it works!

Yea, the memory stick isn't that big. It's only 32mb (one that comes with phone). I plan on buying a 1gb from Newegg. They have one about $59.

Wish I could edit this because it's the 512mb. I can't find a 1gb anywhere. If anyone does, shoot me a PM please.
